Inside Frida’s Jewelry Box & Other Accessories

“Like Coco Chanel, Frida believed that fashions may fade, but style is eternal.  She elevated the status of costume jewelry by incorporating powerful, vibrant pieces into her wardrobe.  Kahlo shared Chanel’s idea of wearing jewelry:  It is not to look wealthy, but to look beautiful.”

FRIDA KAHLO: Fashion as the Art of Being

“An avid shopper, Frida was fascinated by large department stores as well as small shops in San Francisco’s Chinatown, and she had a talent for finding valuable and beautiful items.  Frida also had the vision to appreciate vintage items, which still feeds unique wardrobes and inspires eclectic runway style.”

FRIDA KAHLO: Fashion as the Art of Being

Today’s outfit includes a vintage copper belt from Mexico circa the 1940’s-1950’s.  Frida Kahlo would have still been alive when this belt was handcrafted and worn.  The copper necklace was handcrafted by Rocki Gorman ….a Santa Fe, New Mexico artisan.  Her online shop can be accessed at  @rockigorman.com.  The copper earrings were found on Etsy and handmade by an artisan in Texas.  I agree with Frida’s philosophy of finding vintage items to expand and breathe new life into a wardrobe.  Handcrafted artisan pieces also achieve this goal.  No doubt, Frida would have enjoyed the array of beautiful pieces offered on the internet!

I wish to thank Bill W.  for working and adjusting my vintage copper belt from Mexico.   THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH!

  1. The statement accessories were certainly a hallmark of Frida’s style, and also your own style. They are the exclamation point of our outfits (as Michael Kors quotes). We are fortunate today to have so many wonderful places to source accessories. Yours are particularly gorgeous.
