Voluminous Comfort

“Voluminous skirts formed the most sober part of Frida’s look, deliberately focusing attention to the upper body…”

FRIDA KAHLO:  Fashion as the Art of Being

Rather than a wide skirt, I have chosen to wear wide pants.  They are composed of a light cotton material and billow and swirl around me when I walk.  I think Frida Kahlo loved the movement of wide skirts.  They were the ideal mask for her broken body as they offered camouflage for her crippled leg while creating a soft, sweeping motion around her.  This gentle movement of her skirts added to her feminine mystique and beauty.  She transformed her perceived weakness into a form of beauty.

I have added a leather tie belt from Antik Batik and a cream top from a Chicago based boutique, Belle Up.  The copper necklace is hand crafted by artisan Rocki Gorman in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

  1. This looks cool and comfy. The colour palette is warm and friendly. I can almost hear the swish, swish of the fabric punctuated by a gentle clanging of the bracelets. Yes I can hear see and hear echoes of Frida in my mind. 🍁🌼🍁
